Bourns has expanded its high-power surface-mount Multifuse® MF-MSMF PPTC resettable fuse series, introducing 32 new part numbers and significantly increasing the number of models rated to handle up to 60 VDC. The expanded range now offers 55 total variants, giving engineers greater flexibility in selecting the right overcurrent and overtemperature protection solutions for space-constrained, power-sensitive designs.
Enhanced Performance in a Smaller Package
Built on Bourns’ patented freeXpansion™ design, the new models deliver improved performance with hold currents ranging from 100 mA to 2.6 A, and higher voltage ratings, all within a more compact 1812 footprint. This smaller size delivers key PCB space savings and cost advantages compared to the earlier 2920 package, without compromising performance.
Designed to protect against fault conditions in USB, HDMI, HDTVs, laptops, PCs, data centres, and portable consumer electronics, these fuses enable safer operation of increasingly power-hungry and densely packed electronic systems.
Durability and Reliability Built In
The MF-MSMF series is tested to withstand demanding conditions, undergoing key performance tests including:
- 30-minute hold current
- 100-cycle trip life
- 48-hour trip endurance
- 1000-hour passive aging
- 1000-hour humidity aging
- 20-cycle thermal shock testing
These components also feature ENIG-plated SMD terminals, improving solderability, reducing tin whisker formation, and extending shelf life, all important benefits for high-reliability applications.
A Response to Evolving Power Needs
“Every new product generation increases in complexity and power demand,” said Jennifer Joseph, Vice President of Bourns Protection Division. “Our expanded MF-MSMF series helps engineers meet these rising requirements with protection solutions that combine high power ratings, space efficiency, and proven reliability.”
Availability and Compliance
The full range is RoHS compliant and recognised by UL, CSA, and TÜV, meeting standards including IEC 62319-1, IEC 60738-1, and IEC 60730-1:2013 (Clauses 15, 17, and Annex J). All products are manufactured in a Bourns IATF 16949-certified facility and are available now through authorised distributors.
Practical Protection for Power-Dense Designs
This latest update to the MF-MSMF series gives design teams a broader set of options without needing to compromise on board space or voltage headroom. For engineers building compact systems that still require robust fault protection, the new 1812-sized fuses with 60 VDC capability could make a practical difference.
