SPWM-KN & SPWM-MA Smart LED Driver Series
MEAN WELLTCC-2026-09-08-spwm-kn-spwm-ma-smart-led-driver-series
Smart constant-voltage PWM LED driver series with KNX or Matter-over-Thread control options for lighting automation.
Introduction
MEAN WELL’s SPWM-KN and SPWM-MA series are smart constant-voltage PWM LED drivers for automated lighting installations. Available in 75 W, 150 W, and 240 W power classes, the series combines multi-channel LED control with network connectivity aimed at modern lighting-control architectures.
The two variants offer alternative communication paths: SPWM-KN models integrate a KNX interface with KNX Data Secure support, while SPWM-MA models use Matter over Thread and incorporate a communication antenna. This distinction allows system designers to select a driver family aligned with either KNX-based building automation or Matter-enabled smart-lighting ecosystems.
What it does
The SPWM series supplies constant-voltage LED loads using PWM output and supports selectable one- through four-channel configurations. The channel arrangement can be used for conventional dimming as well as tunable-white and color-control lighting modes.
All series members support a selectable 20 kHz dimming frequency and dimming down to 0.1%, providing low-level brightness control for installations that require gradual adjustment. Output-voltage options span 12 V, 24 V, and, on the 240 W models, 48 V, while input-voltage ranges depend on the selected power class.
For communications, SPWM-KN drivers provide an integrated KNX connection and support KNX Data Secure. SPWM-MA drivers communicate through Matter over Thread, are compliant with Matter 1.5, and are Matter-certified by the CSA Alliance.
Applications
- Connected architectural and commercial LED lighting
- KNX-based building-automation lighting systems
- Matter over Thread smart-lighting installations
- Tunable-white luminaires
- Multi-channel color lighting systems
- Constant-voltage LED strip and fixture control requiring low-level dimming
Design considerations
- Select the power class and AC input range together: the 75 W and 150 W versions accept 100–305 V AC, whereas the 240 W version is specified for 180–305 V AC.
- Confirm that the required LED load voltage is available in the chosen model. The 75 W and 150 W versions offer 12 V or 24 V outputs; the 240 W version offers 24 V or 48 V outputs.
- Determine the required control ecosystem early in the design. SPWM-KN is intended for KNX integration, while SPWM-MA is intended for Matter over Thread installations and includes an integrated antenna.
- Allow enclosure space for the selected unit length. The 75 W, 150 W, and 240 W models are 290 mm, 340 mm, and 380 mm long respectively, with a common 38 mm width and 28.5 mm height.
- Match the channel configuration to the lighting load and intended mode, since the drivers support selectable one- to four-channel output operation.
