KYOCERA AVX has released the DSCC 25007 Mini BME Stacks, a new family of stacked multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) aimed at aerospace, military, and space applications where space, weight, and long-term reliability are critical.
Compact Size with Stacked Design
Each Mini BME Stack combines two X7R MLCCs in a horizontal EIA 2220 package, giving engineers higher capacitance in a smaller footprint. By switching to base metal electrodes (BME), the capacitors achieve low ESR, low impedance, and strong current handling while improving resistance to shock and vibration. Several lead frame options are available, including J, L, paddle, and bar foot styles, so designers can match the part to the mechanical demands of their system.
Performance Under Harsh Conditions
The first parts in the series are qualified for –55 °C to +125 °C operation and offered in 25 V, 50 V, and 100 V versions. Capacitance values run from 8.2 µF to 47 µF with ±20% tolerance. All devices undergo 100% Group A testing, with additional Group B testing available for especially demanding specifications such as T-level requirements. Manufacturing takes place in a DLA-approved, MIL-PRF-32535 qualified facility, ensuring full traceability for aerospace programmes.
Weight and Volume Advantages
Reducing component weight has a direct effect on mission cost. KYOCERA AVX notes that a 100 V, 10 µF Mini Stack weighs roughly one-ninth of an equivalent PME capacitor and occupies about one-sixth of the volume. For satellites and launch vehicles, that translates to lower launch costs; for aircraft, it means lower fuel burn and extended payload margins. These savings also matter in missile designs, where weight directly influences performance.
Future Development
The DSCC 25007 line is expected to grow, with a three-chip horizontal stack planned for early 2026 and vertical stacks of up to 10 chips in development. These additions will expand capacitance options further while maintaining the compact format.
Applications and Availability
Target applications include satellites, launch systems, military aircraft, missiles, and filtering in high-reliability power supplies. The capacitors ship in waffle pack, tape and reel, or two-chip packaging. Samples can be requested now, and production units are available through authorised distributors.
