Samtec Launches ARJ6 Cable Assembly for AI and PCIe 6.0 Systems

Uploaded image Samtec has introduced the ARJ6, a high-density panel-mount cable assembly designed for AI infrastructure, FPGA prototyping, and other high-speed computing applications. The assembly supports PCIe 6.0, CXL 3.2, and 100 GbE systems and is part of the company's AcceleRate HP product family, which supports data rates of up to 112 Gbps PAM4 per channel.

The ARJ6 works with Samtec's ARP6 Series to create cable-to-cable connections at the front panel, mid-plane, or backplane. According to Samtec, the approach removes the need to route signals through intermediary PCBs, reducing the number of transitions within the signal path.

Cable-to-Cable Architecture

The ARJ6 mounts into an ARJ6-PB panel bracket and can be paired with ARP6 cable assemblies to create direct cable-to-cable connections. Samtec states that the design removes PCB transitions both at the panel interface and within the cable assembly itself. Rather than using a transition PCB inside the connector housing, the assembly uses contacts soldered directly to the cable.

The company states that reducing the number of PCB transitions improves impedance control and signal integrity while increasing interconnect density.

High-Density Configurations

The ARJ6 supports differential pair configurations with either 25 or 37 positions per row in four-row and six-row arrangements. Samtec also incorporates designated signal mapping and staggered row spacing to reduce crosstalk between adjacent channels. The company positions the interconnect for applications that require large numbers of high-speed links within limited board and chassis space.

Target applications include AI computing platforms, FPGA development systems, PCIe 6.0 infrastructure, CXL 3.2 architectures, and 100 GbE networking equipment.

Eye Speed Thinax Cable

The ARJ6 uses Samtec's 34 AWG Eye Speed Thinax cable with a characteristic impedance of 92 Ohms.

According to Samtec, the cable has approximately 40% less cross-sectional area than comparable micro twinax cable. The smaller cable size can simplify routing through dense systems while increasing airflow and reducing cable weight. Samtec also states that the cable is designed to control intrapair skew at high data rates. The company specifies a maximum skew of 3.5 ps/meter and support for operation at 112 Gbps PAM4 speeds.
