YAGEO Introduces SMD 0402 FC Pt-RTD Sensor for Compact Thermal Monitoring

Uploaded image YAGEO has introduced the SMD 0402 FC, a new platinum resistance temperature detector (Pt-RTD) designed for high-precision temperature measurement in space-constrained electronic systems.

The new sensor measures just 1.0 × 0.5 mm with a thickness of 280 μm, expanding YAGEO's Pt-RTD portfolio with a compact surface-mount device that can be positioned in confined spaces and between interface layers. Good thermal conductivity and low thermal mass also provide a fast response to temperature changes, making the sensor suitable for medical devices, wearables, industrial equipment, robotics, solar systems, and AI cooling applications.

Compact 0402 Package

As electronic assemblies continue to become smaller, temperature sensors are increasingly being placed closer to heat sources and within tightly packed PCB layouts.

The SMD 0402 FC has been developed for these applications, with a compact 0402 footprint and low-profile construction that enables installation where larger RTDs may not fit. Its small size also makes it suitable for compact probe geometries and multilayer assemblies where available space is limited.

Standardised Pt-RTD Performance

The SMD 0402 FC conforms to DIN EN 60751 and is available with nominal resistance values of 100 Ω and 1000 Ω. The sensor supports an operating temperature range of -50°C to +170°C, with a maximum temperature rating of 250°C, and is available in F0.3 and F0.6 tolerance classes.

According to YAGEO, the platinum sensing element provides a linear, standardised output that simplifies interface electronics while offering high accuracy, long operating life, and low signal drift. Compared with NTC thermistors, the sensor also provides improved resistance to high-humidity environments.

Designed for High-Volume Assembly

The SMD 0402 FC supports automated pick-and-place assembly for high-volume production. The device features AgPt screen-printed contact pads on the upper surface and an electrically insulated backside. It is also suitable for wire bonding, giving designers additional flexibility when developing compact sensor modules and custom probe assemblies.

Technology Overview

Pt-RTD sensors are widely used where accurate, repeatable temperature measurement and long-term stability are required. Standardised resistance characteristics allow them to integrate into established measurement circuits, while platinum sensing elements provide low drift over extended operating periods.
