Bourns Adds 0.1 mΩ Current Sense Resistors for High-Current Designs

The CSS2H-5930R-L100x and CSI2H-5930R-L100x use an electron-beam-welded metal strip design with low inductance and low thermal EMF characteristics for high-current sensing applications.

The new resistors are rated at 15 W at 70°C and operate across a temperature range of -55°C to +170°C. Inductance is below 3 nH for the Type R material, while the resistive alloy has a TCR of ±50 ppm/°C between 20°C and 60°C. By adding a 0.1 mΩ option, Bourns is targeting applications where the voltage drop and power dissipation across the current sensing element need to be kept low.

0.1 mΩ Resistance with 15 W Power Rating

Both new models have a 0.1 mΩ resistance value, with the CSS2H version available in ±1% and ±5% resistance tolerances. The CSI2H version adds a ±2% option alongside ±1% and ±5%.

The temperature coefficient including the copper terminals is specified at ±275 ppm/°C between 20°C and 60°C. Both models are RoHS compliant and halogen free.

The CSS2H-5930R-L100x is also AEC-Q200 compliant and automotive grade. Bourns lists battery management systems among the applications for this version, alongside other high-current sensing requirements.

Current Sensing for Automotive and Industrial Power

The new 0.1 mΩ resistors are intended for current sensing and voltage division, with target applications including power modules, frequency converters and industrial power systems.

The electron-beam-welded metal strip construction is designed for low resistance and long-term stability, while the low inductance and thermal EMF characteristics support current measurement in high-current circuits.

Technology Overview
