KYOCERA AVX has released the AEVA and AEVB Series, two new ranges of surface-mount aluminum electrolytic capacitors designed for industrial applications exposed to high vibration and temperatures. The capacitors can withstand acceleration up to 30g and operate at temperatures up to +125°C, with rated lifetimes reaching 5,000 hours.
Both series use plastic supports to improve vibration performance, along with termination shapes that increase the soldering area and board-mounting strength. The capacitors use liquid electrolyte dielectrics and are available with capacitance values up to 4,700 µF.
Designed for High-Vibration Environments
Mechanical stress can limit the use of aluminum electrolytic capacitors in industrial equipment, particularly where vibration places additional strain on the component and its connection to the PCB.
KYOCERA AVX developed the AEVA and AEVB Series with plastic supports and enlarged soldering areas to strengthen the board connection. The resulting surface-mount capacitors are rated to withstand acceleration up to 30g.
The two series also feature low ESR and leakage current of ≤0.01CV or 3 µA, whichever is greater. Both operate at temperatures up to +125°C and are compatible with reflow soldering for automated placement.
AEVA and AEVB Series
The AEVA Series covers 6.3–100 VDC, with capacitance values from 10 µF to 4,700 µF ±20%. The series can operate from -55°C to +125°C and is rated for up to 4,000 hours at rated voltage and 125°C.
For the AEVB Series, voltage ratings range from 16–50 VDC and capacitance from 47 µF to 2,200 µF ±20%. The operating range is -40°C to +125°C, while rated endurance extends to 5,000 hours at rated voltage and 125°C.
Both ranges are intended for industrial equipment where vibration and high temperatures are a concern.
Applications include robotics and embedded motor control units, along with photovoltaic inverters, power tools, DC/DC converters and uninterruptible power supplies.
The AEVA and AEVB Series are available now.
