EPC 100 V GaN Power Stage ICs Enter Mass Production for Motor Drives

Uploaded image Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has started mass production of its EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110 and EPC23111 integrated GaN power-stage ICs. The 100 V devices are designed for high-performance motor drives, with current ratings of 35 A and 20 A and a monolithic design that brings the main power-stage functions into a single package.

The ePower Stage ICs integrate high-side and low-side eGaN FETs, gate drivers and level-shifting circuitry in a compact, thermally enhanced QFN package. EPC is targeting the family at motor-control systems where size, power density and control are important, including robotics, drones and compact battery-powered equipment.

Integrated 100 V GaN Power Stages

Alongside the integrated GaN FETs and gate drivers, the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110 and EPC23111 include protection and control features for motor-drive designs. These include fast fault shutdown and safe gate control under power-loss conditions.

The devices also support continuous operation at 100% duty cycle. Single-input PWM options are available within the family, aimed at simplifying control in multi-axis motor systems.

Bringing the FETs, drivers and level shifting onto the same monolithic GaN IC reduces the number of separate parts needed to build the power stage. The thermally enhanced QFN package is designed to support the current and thermal requirements of compact motor-drive systems.

GaN Power Stages for Robotics and Motor Control

EPC is positioning the 100 V family for humanoid robots, drones and industrial motor drives, as well as motor-control systems used in medical equipment. The devices can also be used for synchronous rectification and high-density DC/DC converters.

For motor-drive development, EPC offers four matching three-phase BLDC evaluation boards. The EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130 and EPC91131 are built around the four respective power-stage ICs and include current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, temperature monitoring and protection.

The EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110 and EPC23111 are now in mass production and available through EPC's distribution network.
