Rosenberger has introduced two new Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) connectors designed specifically for industrial and automation environments. The latest additions to the company’s RoSPE portfolio bring high-speed data transmission, power delivery, and ruggedised design into a compact form factor suitable for harsh conditions.
Building on its experience with automotive-grade SPE interfaces, Rosenberger’s RoSPE-HMTD and RoSPE-Industrial connectors are engineered to support both data and power over a single twisted pair of wires. This allows for leaner, lighter cabling in space-constrained systems without compromising signal integrity or robustness.
Both connectors are fully compatible with Power-over-Data-Line (PoDL) systems and conform to the latest industrial SPE standards: IEC 63171-2 for IP20 applications and IEC 63171-5 for IP67-rated environments. These standards are increasingly being adopted in smart factories, modular production systems, and remote sensor networks as Ethernet continues to displace traditional fieldbus protocols.
Compact, Rugged, and Standards-Aligned
The RoSPE-HMTD connector leverages the mechanical design and signal integrity performance of Rosenberger’s automotive H-MTD series. It is intended for use in industrial applications requiring a small footprint and reliable differential transmission up to the gigabit range.
Meanwhile, the RoSPE-Industrial version has been tailored for more demanding environments, offering robust mechanical protection and IP67 sealing. This makes it suitable for installations exposed to dust, moisture, or vibration, such as outdoor machinery, conveyor systems, or automated logistics infrastructure.
Both connector types support 1 Gbps transmission over 15 meters or 10 Mbps over 1000 meters, aligning with IEEE 802.3 standards for SPE. The ability to transmit data and power simultaneously reduces the number of cables required in a system, which is especially beneficial in tightly packed or mobile systems where weight and complexity must be minimised.
Applications Across Smart Industry
These new SPE connectors are designed for integration into modern industrial Ethernet architectures, including:
- Sensor and actuator networks in modular machinery
- Edge devices in IIoT deployments
- Compact control panels and distributed field devices
- Smart building infrastructure and intelligent lighting systems
- Robotics, AMRs, and mobile production assets
The combined support for fast data, PoDL, and space-saving design makes them well-suited to future-facing installations that require scalable, standards-based connectivity.
Simplifying Ethernet in Harsh Environments
By consolidating Ethernet and power lines into a single, shielded interface, Rosenberger’s RoSPE connectors help reduce installation time, minimise cabling clutter, and improve reliability in industrial settings. Their compliance with IEC standards ensures long-term interoperability with components from other vendors as the SPE ecosystem continues to expand.
With the RoSPE-HMTD and RoSPE-Industrial now available, Rosenberger offers a full SPE connector platform for both in-cabinet and field-deployed Ethernet infrastructure. Engineers designing for Industry 4.0, IIoT, or power-conscious distributed systems will find these connectors a practical solution for keeping systems compact, connected, and standards-compliant.
