Nordic Launches nRF54L15 Tag for Asset Tracking Prototyping

Uploaded image Nordic Semiconductor has introduced the nRF54L15 Tag, a compact prototyping platform for low-power wireless IoT products. The battery-powered platform is built around the nRF54L15 SoC and targets applications including asset tags, Bluetooth trackers, smart home devices, wearables, and remote controls.

The nRF54L15 Tag is a development platform used to prototype wireless IoT products based on Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth Channel Sounding, Matter, Thread, Zigbee, and other 2.4 GHz wireless protocols. The platform is powered by a CR2032 coin-cell battery and measures 33 mm in diameter.

Support for Apple Find My and Google Find Hub

The platform supports development for both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub, two crowdsourced location-finding networks that use nearby smartphones to locate tagged devices. Nordic states that the hardware complements existing support within the nRF Connect SDK, which already includes software samples for developers building products for both ecosystems. Memory resources on the platform also support designs that operate across both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub networks simultaneously.

The nRF54L15 Tag incorporates a low-power accelerometer for motion-triggered wake-up, allowing the device to remain in deep sleep when inactive.

Bluetooth Channel Sounding and Edge AI

The nRF54L15 Tag incorporates dual antennas and supports Bluetooth Channel Sounding, a Bluetooth 6.0 feature used for secure distance measurement and proximity awareness. Nordic positions the platform as part of its broader Bluetooth Channel Sounding portfolio, providing a compact development platform for evaluating ranging and location-aware applications.

The tag also integrates a six-axis IMU that can be used for edge AI applications including gesture recognition and anomaly detection.

Matter and Smart Home Development

An onboard environmental sensor provides measurements for temperature, humidity, air pressure, gas concentration, and CO₂ levels. Nordic states that the platform can be used to prototype Matter-enabled products such as weather stations and environmental sensors.

The platform supports Matter over Thread alongside Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth Mesh, Zigbee, Amazon Sidewalk, and proprietary 2.4 GHz protocols. Wireless data rates of up to 4 Mbps are supported.

Development Resources and Availability

The nRF54L15 Tag ships with preprogrammed firmware, documentation, hardware schematics, bill of materials information, Gerber files, and PCB layout files. Programming and debugging are supported through the DEBUG OUT port on nRF54L Series development kits, while Over-the-Air firmware updates are also supported. Exposed GPIO pins allow additional hardware to be connected during development.

The nRF54L15 Tag is available through Nordic's distribution network.
