YAGEO Expands A720 and A798 Polymer Capacitors for AI Servers

Uploaded image YAGEO Group has expanded its A720 and A798 AO-CAP aluminum polymer SMD capacitor series with new capacitance options and extended high-temperature endurance for AI servers and other low-voltage power applications.

The expanded range now includes an 820 µF, 2 V option, while selected devices offer ESR as low as 3 mΩ. Design and material changes have also extended endurance at rated voltage to 3,000 hours at 125°C, targeting power rails where low ESR, high capacitance and longer operating life are required.

The A720 and A798 are solid-state aluminum capacitors that use a conductive organic polymer for the cathode. This construction provides low ESR and improved capacitance retention at high frequencies, with no liquid electrolyte used inside the capacitor.

3 mΩ ESR and 820 µF Capacitance

The expanded A720 and A798 range covers rated voltages from 2 V to 2.5 V and capacitance values from 470 µF to 820 µF. ESR options include 3, 4.5 and 6 mΩ, specified at room temperature and 300 kHz.

YAGEO has introduced material and manufacturing changes to extend life endurance at rated voltage to 3,000 hours at 125°C for the 3 mΩ and 4.5 mΩ specifications. Storage endurance has also been extended to 125°C.

For the A798 series, the capacitors retain humidity-bias capability at 85°C and 85% relative humidity while operating at rated voltage for up to 1,000 hours. The A798 also follows AEC-Q200 requirements.

Another characteristic of the AO-CAP construction is that the capacitors can operate continuously at up to 100% of their rated voltage without voltage derating. YAGEO attributes this to the low-stress interface between the dielectric and polymer counter electrode.

Solid Polymer Construction for High-Frequency Power Rails

Unlike aluminum capacitors that use a liquid electrolyte, the A720 and A798 use a solid polymer cathode. Alongside the lower ESR, this avoids electrolyte dry-out and supports operation at higher temperatures over longer periods.

The electrical characteristics are designed to remain stable across changes in temperature and humidity, including capacitance, ESR and leakage current. The capacitors use an EIA 7343-20 SMD construction.

Low ESR and capacitance retention at high frequencies make the series suitable for low-voltage DC/DC converter rails, where capacitors are used to support fast-changing loads and power delivery close to processors and other high-current devices.

A720 and A798 Target AI Server Power

YAGEO is positioning the expanded A720 and A798 series for computing and enterprise systems, including CPU and GPU power rails in servers. Networking equipment such as switches, routers and data processing units (DPUs) are also among the target applications.

Other uses include telecommunications equipment, displays and industrial systems. YAGEO also identifies AI servers and newer robotics platforms, including humanoid robots, as applications for the extended AO-CAP range.

The new 820 µF option and extended 125°C endurance are intended for low-voltage power rails operating under the higher temperature and lifetime requirements found in these systems.
