Bourns Launches UT-A Automotive Power Resistors for 150°C Operation

Uploaded image Bourns has introduced the UT-A Series of AEC-Q200 compliant power wirewound resistors for automotive power systems and other applications operating at elevated temperatures.

The new series covers power ratings from 1 W to 10 W and resistance values from 10 Ω to 4.5 kΩ. Standard resistance tolerance is ±1%, while the standard temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) is ±30 ppm/°C.

UT-A resistors operate from -55°C to +150°C when used within the applicable power derating limits. Target applications include automotive powertrain, braking and power conversion systems, as well as inverters, motor drives and energy storage equipment.

1 W to 10 W Across the UT-A Series

Bourns offers the UT-A Series with power ratings spanning 1 W to 10 W, allowing the same resistor family to cover different power requirements within automotive and industrial systems.

Resistance values across the series extend from 10 Ω to 4.5 kΩ, although the UT10-A has a maximum resistance of 1 kΩ. Resistance tolerance options range from ±1% to ±10%, with ±1% specified as standard.

Maximum working voltage is determined by the square root of the product of power and resistance. The UT1A has a dielectric strength of 500 VAC, while other models in the series are rated at 1,000 VAC.

±30 ppm/°C TCR at High Temperatures

The UT-A Series has a standard TCR of ±30 ppm/°C to limit changes in resistance as operating temperature varies. Other TCR values are available on request.

The resistors use a wirewound construction suited to circuits exposed to transient energy and pulse loads. They are built around a ceramic core with a flame-resistant silicone coating and all-welded terminations.

Operation is specified across -55°C to +150°C, subject to the applicable power derating limits.

Automotive Power and Motor Applications

The UT-A Series is AEC-Q200 compliant for use in automotive electronics and is also RoHS compliant. Automotive applications include powertrain systems, braking circuits and power conversion equipment. The resistors can also be used in energy and storage systems, industrial power supplies, inverters and motor drives, capacitor recharge and discharge circuits, voltage regulators and telecommunications equipment.

The Bourns UT-A Series is available now through the company’s authorized distribution network.
