Toshiba Introduces 150 Mbps Quad-Channel Digital Isolators



Uploaded image Toshiba has expanded its digital isolator range with the DCL54xx01A series, adding ten quad-channel devices aimed at industrial automation and power conversion equipment. The new isolators support data rates of up to 150 Mbps, provide 5000 Vrms isolation and are specified for operation from -40°C to +125°C.

The launch gives designers another option where higher communication speeds and operation in electrically noisy environments are required.

Designed for Faster Industrial Interfaces

Digital isolators are widely used between control and power circuits in equipment such as PLCs, motor drives and inverters. As switching speeds increase, maintaining signal integrity becomes more challenging, particularly where large common-mode voltage transients are present.

For the DCL54xx01A series, Toshiba quotes a typical common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 150 kV/μs using its magnetic-coupling isolation technology. The devices also feature a typical propagation delay of 10.9 ns and pulse-width distortion of 0.8 ns.

Ten Variants Available

Rather than releasing a single device, Toshiba has introduced ten versions covering 4:0, 3:1 and 2:2 channel-direction configurations. Variants with different default output states and enable-control options are also available, allowing the isolator to be selected around the communication interface rather than redesigning the interface around the isolator.

The DCL54xx01A devices are housed in SOIC16-W packages and operate from supply voltages between 2.25 V and 5.5 V.

Toshiba says the new family complements its existing DCL341x0B digital isolators, which support communication speeds up to 25 Mbps in SSOP16 packages.
