TDK has expanded its CN series of low-resistance soft-termination MLCCs with new 10 µF, 100 V X7R capacitors in a 3225 package for 48 V power lines in AI servers, humanoid robots, xEVs and industrial equipment. Measuring 3.2 × 2.5 × 2.5 mm, the new capacitors offer twice the capacitance of TDK's conventional products of the same size. TDK says the 10 µF rating at 100 V is industry-leading for an X7R MLCC in the 3225 format as of September 2026.
The CN series uses an optimized resin electrode structure to provide soft termination while keeping terminal resistance equivalent to TDK's standard-termination products. Automotive CNA and commercial CNC versions are available, with mass production beginning in September 2026.
10 µF at 100 V in a 3225 Package
The new CN series parts have a rated capacitance of 10 µF with ±10% tolerance and a 100 V rating. TDK is positioning them for smoothing and decoupling on 48 V power lines, where higher capacitance is required while PCB area remains limited. Compared with TDK's conventional capacitors of the same size, the new parts provide twice the capacitance. According to the company, this can halve the number of MLCCs required to achieve the same capacitance, reducing component count and mounting area.
The 100 V rating provides the voltage margin required around 48 V power architectures used in AI servers and other high-power equipment. TDK is also targeting 48 V systems in humanoid robots, xEVs and industrial electronics.
Low-Resistance Soft Termination
Soft-termination MLCCs use a resin layer in the terminal structure to reduce the risk of ceramic cracking caused by mechanical stress such as PCB flex. Adding this layer, however, can increase the equivalent series resistance of the capacitor.
TDK developed the CN series around an optimized resin electrode structure intended to address that trade-off. The company says the resulting terminal resistance is equivalent to its regular MLCC product line, while retaining the mechanical benefits of soft termination.
This combination is particularly relevant where MLCCs are used across higher-current power rails and also need protection against mechanical stress.
The new capacitors are available as the CNA series for automotive applications and CNC series for commercial equipment. The automotive versions are qualified based on AEC-Q200 requirements.
Mass production of the new 10 µF, 100 V CN series MLCCs is scheduled to begin in September 2026.
