TDK has launched the TDK-Lambda TPF12500-385 series of non-isolated three-phase power supplies for distributed power architectures. Rated at 12.5 kW, with up to 13.1 kW available, the new supplies convert three-phase AC input to a regulated 385 VDC output at 97.5% typical efficiency.
The 385 VDC output is intended to supply isolated high-voltage DC/DC converters or DC microgrids. TDK-Lambda is targeting systems including semiconductor manufacturing equipment, data centers, RF power amplifiers in radar systems, industrial automation and burn-in and other test equipment.
Building a 385 VDC Power Architecture
The TPF12500-385 accepts 360 to 528 VAC three-phase inputs in either Delta or Wye configurations. The wide input range supports operation from different three-phase supplies without requiring a step-down transformer.
For higher-power systems, two supplies can be connected in parallel using droop-mode current sharing. Rather than moving to a different supply when more capacity is needed, designers can use a second TPF12500-385 on the same 385 VDC architecture.
TDK-Lambda has also used board-to-board connectors to reduce the amount of power wiring within the system. The units are cooled by two internal fans and measure 202.6 × 111.1 × 711.2 mm, allowing them to be installed in 3U-high rack systems.
Monitoring High-Power Systems over RS-485
Alongside the power conversion hardware, the TPF12500-385 includes an RS-485 interface for remote monitoring. Engineers can access input voltage, output current and internal temperature, as well as fan failure and other status information.
The series also provides isolated DC OK and dropped-phase signals, remote on/off control and an overtemperature warning. A 13 V, 0.2 A standby supply is available for auxiliary circuitry.
The power supply can cold start at -20°C and operates at ambient temperatures from -10°C to +40°C. Safety certifications include IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1. The series also complies with EN 55032 Class A conducted and radiated emissions requirements in the end system, IEC 61000-4 immunity standards and SEMI F47-0706 at 480 VAC nominal.
With the TPF12500-385, TDK-Lambda is providing a three-phase front end for systems built around a high-voltage DC distribution stage, rather than integrating the isolated downstream conversion into the same supply. The 12.5 kW units are available now.
